Jennifer Steingass Workshops – Ateliers avec Jennifer Steingass

We are so thrilled to be hosting Jennifer Steingass at Mont Tricot April 6 & 7, 2019

Top down Arboreal sweater workshop:  (12 students maximum)
In this workshop we’ll knit a top-down yoke sweater swatch in the round. We’ll be following the Arboreal yoke chart, a fun and easy colorwork sweater pattern that many people with no prior colorwork experience have successfully knit.  You’ll practice two-color stranded knitting and go over tips and tricks for choosing colors.  We’ll cover techniques for knitting two color stranded colorwork, learn about different yoke sweater construction types, choosing the right size, positive ease, the role of short rows, and body shaping styles. You’ll learn how to follow a colorwork chart while you shape your yoke swatches using a fun invisible increase.
Required techniques –  Cast on, knit, purl, knit in the round. NO prior experience with colorwork necessary.
Tools and materials needed: size 5 and 6  (size 3.75mm & 4.00mm) knitting needles for your preferred method of small circumference knitting (DPNS and/or 32″ long circular needles for magic loop).  (yarn will be provided for students)

Designing colorwork motifs: (12 students maximum)

In this workshop you’ll try your hand at designing your own colorwork motifs that can be used in your own future knitwear designs. Bring inspiration if you wish and Jenn will also bring a few inspirational pieces to help get you started.   Bring a bunch of yarn in various colors from your stash to play with – just make sure they’re all of the same relative thickness and try to bring both dark and light colors.  Jenn will have colored pencils for sketching on hand.  We’ll go over tips and tricks for smooth, even colorwork and talk a bit about color theory and color dominance as well.

Technique requirements:  Knit, Purl, knit in the round, some stranded colorwork experience suggested.

Tools and materials:  Knitting needles in the sizes suitable for your chosen yarn weight: 32″ long circular needles for magic loop (to knit small circumference swatch) OR DPNs if you haven’t magic looped before.  Yarn: Dk weight yarn will be provided
